Thrice-crowned award winner Nikola Jokic suffers a 'heartbreaking' injury to his knee.
Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association MVP Nikola Jokic endured a "devastating" injury to his knee when the Nuggets fell 147-123 at the Heat.
The star player was hurt late in the first half during an accidental contact with team-mate Jones.
Jones stepped on the footwear of Jokic, and he instantly collapsed to the court clutching his knee.
The star, who tops the NBA this season in boards and dimes, posted 21 points and eight assists in the contest prior to sustaining the setback.
Jokic is scheduled for an MRI on Tuesday to determine the extent of the issue.
"Right away, he understood he was hurt," commented Nuggets coach Adelman.
"This happens in professional sports. Anyone that suffers an injury, it's difficult, most notably a player as important as he is. We'll find out more on Tuesday."
"We will continue together. Of course, at this moment, I'm more concerned about Jokic personally and the frustration of facing something like that."
