Marking the arrival of a captivating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, an exciting partnership has been formed. The Pokémon Company alongside London's Natural History Museum are opening a temporary store featuring exclusive merchandise. Fans can look forward to offerings including plush toys, art prints, and writing supplies that are drawing from the museum's aesthetic. For collectors, however, will be a specially made Pikachu card, given as a gift with purchase at the pop-up. This shop is scheduled from the physical location to its web counterpart from January 26 to April 19.

Pokécology Behind the Partnership

Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology represents a highly anticipated tome packed with stunning artwork that show Pokémon in their natural habitats. The concept is the kind of research an in-world scientist might publish once trainers provide field notes, or a naturalist's journal could have sketched if the Galapagos were populated by Pidgeys rather than birds. Part of the charm stems from the book's scholarly approach, presenting Pokémon as worthy of subject for study. Writer Yoshinari Yonehara together with artist Chihiro Kinoshita each possess PhDs in animal behavior and ecology.

What Makes This Promo Card Different

The company regularly for The Pokémon Company special edition promos for big events and brand collaborations. Many such collector items often feature the famous mouse Pokémon who serves as the series face. The factor setting this latest promotion apart is its unusually large dimensions. While precise specs were not publicly disclosed, availability will certainly be strictly limited, and customers limited to only a single card with each transaction.

Limiting Speculator Interest

Per a company announcement, some of the merchandise will also be sold beyond the museum walls. But, broader availability will only be select retailers in the United Kingdom. Critically, collectors will not be able to purchase the card through the official web shop. Although speculator demand is inevitable, it appears they're going to have trouble hoarding mass quantities this time around. For those unable to attend, consider the upcoming fossil-themed display headed to Chicago in the coming months.

"All profits of sales made in the Museum shop and from its online store, including these items, support the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. This includes the research of hundreds of researchers who are conducting studies to discover answers to the global ecological crisis," it notes.
