The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
