New York Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident
New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.
Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was âin good spiritsâ during their recent conversation.
âWhat reassures me, is that heâs feeling positive,â Glenn said Wednesday. âHis wife and child, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.â
Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where his condition is described as critical but stable.
âNot certain at the moment,â the coach said. âYet I must mention, from our conversation, his attitude was encouraging. Once more, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.â
New York police released video stills Monday of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting is still being looked into and officials stated itâs not clear if Boyd was singled out. There were no additional victims as confirmed by officials.
The incident occurred just after 2am on Sunday in the area between Madison Square Garden and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to a local hospital after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The shooter fled the scene.
Glenn said Boyd has occupied his thinking âconstantlyâ since the news broke. The coach said that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a newborn.
âMy initial concern, he recently became a father,â Glenn remarked. âMy mind went to his family, Iâm thinking about his kid and my priority is his well-being. And thatâs the only thing that really went through my mind.
âA certain process is underway, that I wonât detail, but Iâm happy at the fact that he will recover excellently.â
Boyd did not participate during the current season, his debut year with New York, after his season was cut short due to injury on mid-August with a shoulder issue that required surgery.
He joined the Jets as a free agent in March and was projected as an important component of the teamâs updated special teams under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during a training camp practice on August 2 and was carted from the field.
Boyd continued to be present during the entire campaign while working his way back.
âHe has stayed engaged with the team,â Glenn commented. âIn fact, he attends every game. Heâs fully engaged. As one of the leagueâs best on special teams, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.â
Boyd, from Texas, began his career with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of Texas University in 2019. He signed with Arizona in last year and moved to Houstonâs squad after that. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal for $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
