On the eve of his half-decade plus one year as manager, Mikel Arteta has stated plainly that his future at Arsenal is directly connected to winning major honors.

The Journey So Far: The Arteta Era

The former Arsenal captain took over on December 20th, 2019 and managed to steer the team to an FA Cup triumph a short time later. However, that first major trophy stands as his lone top-tier trophy following the departure of Unai Emery.

“Yes,” he stated when questioned about staying beyond 2027. “But it’s about today. And numerous factors have to happen in the coming months as well to warrant that continuation.”

He will mark the six-year milestone with a fixture against Everton, the very same club Arsenal played just after his hiring was confirmed.

League Position and Pressure

With chasing Manchester City playing against West Ham on Saturday afternoon, Arsenal face being knocked off top spot in the Premier League before their own match begins. This situation arises notwithstanding Arteta overseeing a squad that has endured more than a century of fitness issues from the beginning of last season.

A Different Club

Regardless of the availability issues and the high-stakes environment, Arteta is confident the club's “priorities and messaging” are vastly different from when he first arrived.

The manager referenced the squad's displays as a sign they are nearing their goal. “Examine the performances, all the historical marks we surpassed... We still haven't been able to do that [win trophies]. But that shows the level we are at.”

In closing, the manager stated, “It represents a quality that the Premier League has never experienced in the past. And our aim is to achieve greater objectives. And if we do that, I think we are on the right path to winning.”
