Ex- Doctor Faces Sexual Assault Charges Involving Thirty-Eight Individuals in His Care
Prosecutors have announced that a ex- doctor stands accused of committing assaults against thirty-eight individuals who were patients.
The Serious Charges
The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with numerous sexual offences – some of which involve some against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 and 2021.
One senior prosecutor said, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to support a thorough and intricate police inquiry, carefully reviewing the available evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”
The Police Inquiry
These allegations follow what police described as a “detailed inquiry” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.
The defendant is scheduled to appear at the local magistrates' court on January 20th.
List of Offences
Prosecutors said the 45 sexual offences comprise:
- 15 counts of sexual assault.
- 17 counts of assault by penetration.
- Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
- Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
- One count of attempted penetrative assault.
