Detonations and Low-Flying Planes Witnessed in Venezuelan Capital Caracas

Reports emerged of numerous blasts and the roar of low-altitude planes in Caracas in the small hours of the weekend. This situation has led to allegations from Venezuela's government and demands for diplomatic intervention.

Venezuela Condemns Washington of Attack

Venezuela's incumbent government has condemned the Washington of committing "imperial aggression," claiming that former President Donald Trump allegedly ordered attacks against the Latin American state. In an official declaration, the authorities asserted that attacks had targeted Caracas and three other states: Miranda, La Guaira state, and Aragua state.

"The only objective of this attack is to take control of our nation's natural resources, notably its crude oil and minerals," Venezuela said.

Venezuelan officials called on the global community to denounce the operations, which it described a "clear infringement of global law" that endangered millions of civilians in danger.

Reports of Explosions and Military Bases Targeted

Residents reported experiencing at least seven powerful blasts around the middle of the night local time. Residents in several districts allegedly hurried into the streets.

"The earth trembled. It was horrible. We heard blasts and jets in the sky," commented one witness.

Smoke was observed pouring from two defense sites in the city: the La Carlota airfield and the Fuerte Tiuna compound, where leader Nicolás Maduro is thought to have a residence.

Regional Condemnation

The leader of neighboring Colombia, stated on a social platform that "At this moment they are striking Venezuela... attacking it with projectiles." He demanded an immediate emergency session of the UN Security Council.

The Colombian government, which just joined the Security Council, announced it would activate security measures at its shared border with its neighbor.

Background

These alleged strikes come after a extended military buildup by the United States against the Maduro regime. Since August, authorities reported a substantial naval buildup off Venezuela's Caribbean coast and a number of strikes on vessels linked to illegal activities.

Venezuela's government has stated "the implementation of external disturbance" and commanded all defense plans to be activated. It has also urged its citizens to take to the streets and "reject this imperialist attack."

US authorities and the US Department of Defense have not immediately responded to inquiries for a statement regarding the reports.
