In a surprising collaboration that breaks traditional forecasts, the game developer has announced an virtual crossover between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the acclaimed anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, including complimentary additional story content for Shadows players.

Strange Mission Revealed

According to the official release, "A mysterious confrontation leads heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh quest, where whispers of prohibited rituals and monstrous transformations reverberate through the darkness." The narrative features a "unusually garbed woman named Ada" who charges the pair with traveling into the Crystalline Cavern—a important location from Attack on Titan—to liberate her friend from a hidden sect.

The questline concentrates on "peculiar tests and a fearsome foe" and is available to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.

Iconic Places and Transformations

The trailer showcases the Hidden Temple from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This important location was formerly where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through generations. The preview ends with a dramatic sequence showing a character, probably the prisoner, morphing into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.

Special Items and Additional Features

Players who successfully complete the mission will obtain an exclusive katana together with numerous artifacts secreted throughout the area in hidden chests. The update also features in-store Attack on Titan item packs, including:

• Titan-based attire for Yasuke
• Mikasa attire for Naoe
• Unique arms
• Survey Corps mount

Third Free Story Content

This release also adds the game's newest free story addition, titled "The Enigma." This lighthearted adventure pairs Naoe and Yasuke as they trade signature abilities: Naoe debuts a theatrical version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires non-fatal stealth takedowns. Loyal to its name, "The Enigma" also features a original environmental puzzle that may finally explain some lingering questions from the main storyline.

Earlier Anime Partnerships

This represents hardly the initial time the Assassin's Creed franchise has crossed over with popular anime franchises. The series formerly showcased a 2020 cross-promotional story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Additionally, Valhalla informally contained a quest that obviously nodded to the famous series One-Punch Man.
