A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.
It might not have been at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miamiâs iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
âThis pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,â stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the commencement of a second term in office.
âIf we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,â Levine Cava continued. âI hope she experiences a long and happy life away from worry.â
This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the regionâs Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling âsix-sevenâ â originating from a musical verse â often without clear purpose. The craze became so widespread that a major dictionary recently named âsix-sevenâ its annual vocabulary selection.
A New Life
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary âfar from charcoal and roasting pansâ, according to the organizers' announcement.
âThe annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the festive period,â said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
âIt embodies the spirit of Miami: happy, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.â
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they toasted Six Sevenâs big moment.
